4 Key Purposes of an Author Website

Many of our first-time authors are surprised to discover that they need a new author website, especially if they already have a website for their business.

Here are 4 key functions an author website uniquely serves:

1. It acts as a central hub for building your author platform. Your books, podcasts, online courses, programs, reviews, social media, publicity, etc. Someone can visit your website searching for one thing and discover the full scope of what you do. All these will become linked and amplify each other under the umbrella of your brand on your website.

2. It helps you monetize your book and business. When someone who loved your book goes to your website, the site can easily funnel them in to see the courses, speaking opportunities, and programs you offer. If they’ve already ready your book and showed enough interest to visit your website, they’re much more likely to take the next step.

3. It keeps you from being limited in what you share publicly. While your company and personal brand may be similar, it’s not appropriate to share the exact same content on both. (For example, it may not be fitting to share raving book reviews on your company site.) You don’t want to be limited in what you share because it doesn’t fit your company’s exact vision or structure.

4. It makes it easier for readers to find you. A reader may not know what company you run, but they know your name. If you make your name your URL, you eliminate any barrier in someone’s search for you online.

What other benefits or barriers do you see to having an author website? Any questions/concerns? Leave us a comment! We’re here to support.
